For each injury (or each row of data) enter the corresponding AIS code. Use the corresponding version of AIS dictionary to specify the proper code. Recommend collection at least on date of TBI or at time of first medical treatment. For, AIS 2005, update 2008, AIS code comprises six values, a dot, a one-digit severity code, and eight optional values). The pre-dot code contains values indicating AIS body region injured, type of structure injured, specific anatomic structure injured, and level of injury. The post-dot code contains the severity score, and may also contain optional descriptors indicating location of injury, whether it was intentional or unintentional, cause of injury, etc. Use the information from AIS dictionary (https://www.aaam.org/abbreviated-injury-scale-ais/) to choose the appropriate value.
